The Reason for this Season

The end of the year is upon us again and we in our own individual ways are making plans to ensure that we make this festive season a memorable one. By now, most homes have their trees ready and still shopping for more decorations so that their abodes may reflect their merry hearts for the season.

We organize dinners, parties, get-togethers and drink-ups to reconnect with long-time friends and estranged relatives because the season requires us to. We do all tradition and culture demands us but someway somehow, we fail to acknowledge the Man of the season.

The lovely carols played everywhere during this time never ceased to remind us that baby Jesus the only Beloved Son of God and  the Savior of the world was born to reconcile a lost mankind back to the Father. They remind us of how joy, love and peace should flood our hearts every time we get the opportunity to hear the Christmas story over again-because God gave us a second and final chance to make it right with Him.

Now many years down the line, things have changed in an unbelievable drastic manner. The shameful, un-said things of the past are now hallowed and the practices upheld back then are gradually being relegated to the background. The mighty name of Jesus is now being mocked in almost every movie and TV drama series; Christmas carols which were played on TV and radio are now being replaced by jingles and even the word ‘Christmas’ is now replaced by mere ‘season.’

How can we claim to celebrate a festivity when we ignore the One who made it possible to be worth celebrating? How can we expect the get the whole package when we attempt to take the ‘Christ’ out of the ‘Christmas’? Having flashy parties and hearty dinners will not compensate for not acknowledging the One who through and for whom all things were made.

There is nothing wrong to have fun and be merry during this season; it is demanded but let’s not lose sight of the baby Jesus who for your sake and mine, lay in a manger on that blessed day so we may have eternal life in Him. He is the Joy of the World, God’s only Son and the Lover of our soul.

So as you bite through your chicken, and sip your wine, don’t forget to give thanks to the One who has made it possible for you to see this day. Make this Christmas season a different one; make it about Jesus and He’ll take care of the New Year for you.

Enjoy your day, folks!
