The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) is calling for a national policy on education that will make quality Senior High School education free and accessible to all.
A statement issued by the student body stated that GNUPS has taken a stance that the implementation of the free SHS is possible which will eventually favour Ghana and therefore should not be politicised.
The Public Relations Officer of the Union, Andrew Atariwini told Citi News, the lack of resources should not be a barrier to quality and access to education.
He said: “Ghana has come of age and when policies of this caliber are introduced, as a nation, we ought to look at how good the policies are. We should check if we have gotten to the stage of achieving it before we criticize or adopt it?”
“Introducing the free SHS system is something that we have realized is achievable having considered the number of resources that we have. Having considered other countries which do not have the resources that we have,” he added.
