MTN Ghana has donated 50 internet modems to the New Town Experimental School in the Ayawaso Central Sub Metro in the Greater Accra Region.

The modems, which come with 50 Data SIM cards, are in support of MTN’s efforts to bridge the digital divide between the served and underserved communities.

Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager for MTN Ghana Foundation said “MTN is now focusing a lot of attention on the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the internet in particular because of the huge potential it has in improving education and in driving national development”.

He said the company had taken up the challenge of driving the use of ICT in schools as a development approach because access to ICT Would expand the world view of the children and help improve their knowledge base”, he added.

Mr. Lawrence Akosen, Senior Manager for Quality Assurance, urged the teachers to use the internet for live demonstrations of what they teach the students to enable them better understand the subject being taught.

Mr. Abdul-Latiff Issahaku, Innovations Manager at MTN, said with the provision of the modems, students of the school would no longer rely on a single textbook in the library as a source to find answers to questions but can quickly search on the internet for a variety of answers and broaden their knowledge.

Mrs. Grace Annan, Officer In charge of Ayawaso Central Sub-Metro Education Office, who received the items on behalf of the school, , thanked management of MTN for championing a course that was very commendable.

She called on Corporate Ghana, interest groups, individuals and corporate institutions to emulate the gesture of MTN.
