The National Youth Achievers’ Award has been launched in Accra to honour young people who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavor.
Instituted under the patronage of Vice President John Dramani Mahama and sponsored by RLG Communications in conjunction with Charter House, the award is to recognize, reward and celebrate outstanding achievements of Ghanaian youth in fields such as science, politics, arts, education and the humanities.
Vice President Mahama who launched the award during a short ceremony in Accra Tuesday, said he was happy because all other national awards have over the years been skewed toward the celebration of older people.
He was particularly enchanted about the category that recognizes the achievement of disabled young persons.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa urged the youth to break societal norms militating against their progress and make a difference using their talents and ingenuity.
The minister, who is admired as a young achiever, also warned the youth against complacency as they aspire to greater heights.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of RLG Communications, Roland Agambire charged young people to make good use of their talent and skills, saying: “every young person must be hungry to succeed.”
He also encouraged Ghanaians to buy into the ‘RLG vision’ and patronize their products.
Persons who wish to partake in the maiden edition of the Youth Achievers” Awards which will come off in August can pick up application forms at participating radio stations, including Joy FM and RLG offices nationwide.
Applicants must be Ghanaians between the ages of 15 – 35.
Since the award is to encourage and celebrate youth excellence, all winners will receive a plaque and citation presented personally by the vice president.
Each prize presentation will include RLG products while categories in education will include scholarships and others categories with internships at RLG offices.
