Professor Joshua Alabi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) said, the school has deployed the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (Moodle) platform as a tool to enhance teaching and learning. He said the deployment of the Moodle platform has been an incredible success and would be a launch-pad for the take-off of the University’s Distance Learning Programme.
Prof Alabi was addressing graduates of the 4th Congregation of the University in Accra on Saturday.
He said the University has received approval from the National Accreditation Board to run MBA in Oil and Gas Accounting and MBA in Internal Auditing programmes and hope to mount them in the 2013/2014 Academic Year.
“UPSA is also waiting the accreditation process to be completed for MBA in Total Quality Management, Bachelor of Public Relations Management, BSc in Information Technology Management and Diploma in Information Management.”
Prof Alabi said UPSA received 7,103 qualify application for admission into various programmes whilst 4,219 were admitted comprising 98 professional students 366 diploma students, 3,458 under graduate students and 297 post graduate students.
“The total enrolment of the University now stands at 9,911, which represent an increase in student population of about 21.15 per cent over that of previous year.
He said inspite of resource constraints; UPSA Clinic carried out a number of public health activities including screening of food vendors to reduce the risk of disease transmission to patrons of restaurants on campus.
The facility also organise talks on Hepatitis B to freshmen and vaccination to members of the University Community.
Mr Roland Agambire, Chief Executive Officer of RLG Communications suggested the need for UPSA to consider instituting a regular forum for businesses to engage policy makers for policy change.
He said the world today is driven by Information Communication Technology and that none of the graduates have an excuse not to be part of it, adding: “If we do so, the consequences will be unbearable. I urge (the graduates) to embrace ICT and make their very best out of it.”
Professor Justice Nii Aryeetey, Chairman of UPSA Council called for discipline among the students.
Mr Angmor Peter Lawer , who read Masters of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance was adjudged the overall best post graduate student while Mr Tamakloe Francis Delasi of the Faculty of Management, Bachelor of Business Administration was adjudged the best undergraduate student.
