The 2015 Ashanti Regional Inter Schools and Colleges Athletics Competition (InterCo) organized by the Schools and Colleges Sports Federation in Ashanti Region was officially launched at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi last Friday.
Thirty-one senior high schools within Ashanti Region will compete in various events. Six schools will qualify from each zone to participate in the super zonal championship. There are 4 zones in total.
The 31 schools include Adventist SHS, Akumadan SHS, Asante Akim Technology, Bankoman SHS, CIAT, Denyaseman SHS, Dwamena Akenten, Esaase Bontefufuo SHS, Great Gadeco, Juaso Day SHS, KNUST SHS, KUMACA, Kumasi Sports Academy, KTI, Kwesi Oppong SHS, Mpasatia SHS, Nyinahin Catholic SHS, Ofoase Kokoben SHS, Osabarima SHS, Osei Kyeretwie SHS, Presby Bompata SHS, Presby Girls, Prince of Peace, Ramseyer SHS, ST. Joseph Seminary, Simms Senior High School, Serwaa Nyarko SHS, Tawheed SHS,T.I Ahmadiyya SHS Fomena, and Wesley Girls SHS.
The ceremony started with the arrival of invited guests and heads of second cycle institutions followed by the arrival of Regional Director of Education. The Guest of Honour, Dr. M. Y. Caesar (M. Y. Ventures – Medicals) also arrived before contingents marched past the dais to assemble in front of the pavilion.
Dr. Caesar gave his opening address after winners of last year’s competition returned their trophies. The hoisting of the games flag, lighting of the games flame, and taking of the games oath by participants and officiating officials followed. This paved way for the start of finals for Zone 2.
The current defending champion is AMASS Phobia.
