Ghanaian Senior High School teams and over 1000 students are gearing up to compete regionally to showcase their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills to address real world challenges.

This competitions coordinated by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF) in partnership with the US Embassy Ghana, and other corporate institutions will occur in Tamale, Accra and Cape Coast.

GRAF was founded in 2011 as a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to inspire the next generation of Ghanaians to participate in science and technology. GRAF’s mission seeks to design accessible and innovative programs that will excite and motivate young Ghanaians to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

RISE seeks to transform the learning experience of young Ghanaians by connecting science theory to hands-on learning experiences.  Not only do teachers and students strategize, design, build, program and test an autonomous robot to solve defined real world problems, but students are able to develop leadership skills, self-confidence, presentation and communication skills through the experience of Robotics competitions.

This is the fourth consecutive year, where thousands of participants and supporters have gathered on and off-line in Ghana to encourage this innovative and motivational experience under the tutelage of NASA Senior Robotics Engineer Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu and prominent Ghanaian professors.

The U.S. Embassy look forward to  making the most of this educational partnership and witnessing the results of these activities in the months and years to come, as students are able to build on their newly-acquired skills.  Come join in the excitement and cheer on Ghana’s youth!
