The Ministry of Education has assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) expected to begin in April. Adequate classrooms and laboratories, training of supervisors and invigilators, procurement of science equipment and chemicals for practical among other activities have been facilitated to ensure that schools and candidates go through the examination process with minimal hitches.
A statement signed by Mr Paul Krampa, Director of Public Relations and copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Wednesday.
It said the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES) and West Africa Examination Council had worked very hard to address challenges likely to occur with two batches of students writing the WASSCE at the same time.
According to the statement GES has restructured the academic calendar in such a way that the first and second year students would go on Easter vacation on March 29 and return to school on May 17, when the examination was over.
It said the move was meant to ensure adequate classrooms and laboratories are made available for the conduct of the examination.
Teachers who handle the first and second year students would be available to participate in the conduct of the examination as invigilators and supervisors, the statement added.
It said all supervisors who are heads of schools as well as invigilators had been trained by the West African Examination Council in preparation towards the conduct of the examination.
It added that while the ministry had procured science equipment and chemicals for practical subjects like chemistry, biology and physics.
The statement assured the public that all internal issues relating to the conduct of the examination are being addressed by the heads of schools in conjunction with the officials of the GES.
