The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released new approved fees for second cycle institutions for the 2012/2013 academic year.
The approved fee for fresh boarding students is GH¢360.50 plus parent-teacher-association (PTA) charges while that of continuing boarders is GH¢220.05.
Day students are to pay GH¢140.00. Foreign students will also pay tuition of GH¢468.00 per term.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Mr Charles Parker Allotey, said the new rates would be valid for a period of three years.
The GES also approved new feeding fees for second cycle institutions for the 2012/2013 academic year.
“The new feeding rate of GH¢2.20 per student per day will translate into GH¢205 per term. The new rate will apply for a period of three years; 2012/13-2014/2015 academic years.
“Meanwhile, all heads of public second cycle institutions have been asked to note the review and comply”, it said.
The statement said regional and district directors of education had been tasked to ensure strict compliance of a directive not to charge above these approved fees.
In a related development, the GES has released the calendar for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year.
In a separate statement the GES said the second term for the school session began from January 14, 2013.
Students would go on break from March 29 to May 19, 2013.
The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) would begin on April 2 and end on May 15, 2013.
The statement said the last and third term for the 2012-2013 academic year would begin from May 20 to August 23, 2013. The holiday period would then start from August 24, 2013 while the new academic year would begin from September 15, 2013.
The statement also said this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be held from June 17 to 24, 2013.
