The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
Addressing the media in Accra, Head of WAEC Ghana, Very Rev. Sam Nii Nmai Ollennu disclosed the council is withholding the entire results of candidates presented by 185 out of 810 participating schools whilst investigations into alleged examination malpractices continued.
Out of the 268,771 candidates who took part in the exams, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine (1,859) had their subject results cancelled while 453 candidates had their entire results cancelled.
Eight candidates, who had their entire results cancelled, have been barred from taking any of WAEC’s exams for two years.
The number of absentees was 1,015.
According to WAEC this year’s participation was 11 per cent higher than the previous year. The WAEC head has also asked the public to ignore a ‘whatsapp’ message making rounds about the results and a purported ranking of the various schools.
