A final year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Abdul Fatawu Seidu, who was participating in the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games being held at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been reported dead.
Abdul finished his final exams as a Land Economy student at the College of Architecture and Planning this semester and was waiting to have his graduation this month (June, 2014).
He reportedly collapsed whiles playing for the hand ball team of KNUST this evening. He was pronounced dead at the UCC Hospital. The exact cause of his death is not known yet.
The KNUST team is currently in great shock and currently deliberating whether to continue with the game or not. Their next match is scheduled for 7am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
Speaking on the incident, the President of GUSA, Dr Joseph Kwesi Ogah, said Seidu’s family was immediately contacted, and arrangements were made to bury him at Pokuase in accordance with Islam tradition.
Dr Ogah indicated a proposal would be made to the Executive Committee of GUSA to consider naming the trophy at stake in the handball competition after Seidu.
The GUSA games started on June 11, 2014 and is expected to end on June 22, 2014 at UCC.
