Dynamic Research Access Media (DReAM) has organised an outreach programme dubbed “Celebrating Brain Awareness”. DReAM is a newly-established charity organisation made up of staff and national service personnel from the Department of Biochemistry.
The programme which took place at the Kotei RC J.S.S aimed at sensitizing the students on the progress and benefits of brain research and also to disseminate information on the brain in an understandable and accessible fashion.
In an interview, Bernice Tali, Outreach Cordinator for the organisation explained that their mission was to create awareness and explain research works undertaken by their lecturers in the department. According to her, most of the articles and publications of their lecturers were now gathering dust on library shelves and on the internet accessible to only a few people in the country. DReAM had thus taken it upon itself to read the academic papers and sensitize the community on their applicability.
On their sources of funding, Bernice explained that the team made contributions from their service allowance as well as donations from religious bodies to support the organisation. DReAM had organised several outreach programmes and this was the first to be held in a classroom setting.
She showed appreciation to the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiative, Thomas Ohene Karikari and lecturers from the Biochemistry, Anatomy and Biological Science Departments for supporting their vision to impart the community.
