Floods threaten KNUST students again

Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) residing at the Frontline Hostel, Shalom Hostel, P3 Hostel, Adom Bi Hostel, and Amen Hostel just to mention a few were once again in a state of discomfort as the main route linking these popular hostels was flooded by the Wednesday evening downpour.

Though the rain comparatively was not heavy, the drainage between Nana Adomaa and Frontline hostels was completely out of sight and the whole area was taken over by the water.

Apart from the fact that there is no properly constructed drainage at the site, one could also attribute the cause to the choked drainage. The flood gathered rubbish, mainly plastic and rubber waste, on one side of the road.

From campus through the Ayeduase gate and taking the immediate right side-road which leads straight to the Engineering gate and Nana Adomaa Hostel, there are several gulleys along the road and in addition to the sloppy nature of the road, the water easily runs down all the way to join the drainage between Frontline and Nana Adomaa Hostels.

Despite the broad nature of the road, its deplorable state which is even worse during the rainy season restricts the students to using specific portions which seem a bit pliable. At times students would have to form queues to do this which creates lots of discomfort for the students.

Until the the hostel managers in the area together with the local authorities reconstruct the drainage system in that area, the worry and discomfort of the affected student residents would continue to linger on in their hearts.
