General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd.), former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor William Otoo Ellis.
The visit was to formalize and rekindle his special relationship with the university which had existed for the past 12 (twelve) years. He used the opportunity to show appreciation and gratitude to KNUST for honouring him with a doctorate degree in 2002. He made a donation of an undisclosed amount to support the day – to – day administration of the university.
Professor Ellis welcomed and showed gratitude to the delegation from Nigeria for the visit. He praised His Excellency for showing great allegiance to his alma mater and called on all alumni to imitate and emulate such exemplary act.
His Excellency explained that he had come to Ghana to honour an invitation by the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He was gracing a programme in Winneba, where he would be giving the Special Congregation lecture and also be honoured a doctorate degree.
He mentioned that his visit to Ghana would not have been complete if he had not visited his alma mater, KNUST. He congratulated Professor Ellis for being adjudged the best Vice- Chancellor in Ghana and hoped that his special relationship with KNUST would be everlasting.
