Government should use Agriculture students as a tool in improving the Agricultural sector.
There is no doubt that the government is making a conscious effort to improve the agricultural sector of this country, but it appears to be a fallacy as the government has sight of the fact that it cannot achieve its aim without involving the youth and for that matter the official agricultural students association.
The International Association of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences (IAAS – Ghana) has tried in its capacity to influence farmers mostly in the rural areas by way of education so as to maximize productivity, during our famous GREEN WEEK celebration.
Achieving this goal has not been easy as the association is tied to limited resources available and the lack of support from stakeholders. Very soon, the “infamous” farmer’s award will come off.
I stand to be corrected though but not that I know of has the government involved the official agricultural students’ body in their dealings.
We are of the opinion that, IAAS has a role to play and therefore we appealing to the government and all other stakeholders to at least involve the association in its dealings. After all Ghana is not for the elderly, it’s for the youth.
