The management of the Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS) hostels of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has commissioned a 350 kW stand-by generator for Chancellor’s Hall popularly known as Hall Seven, one of its three hostels in KNUST.
The generator which was supplied by Elkhart Enterprise at the cost of GH¢ 149,077.00 (One hundred and forty-nine thousand Ghana cedis, seventy-seven pesewas) is located behind the hostel.
In an interview, Mr. Ohene Mensah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Elkhart Enterprise, said the current unstable electricity situation was an obstruction to students’ academic work. This made the hall management consult his company to provide the 350kb generator to solve the power crisis at the hall.
Fred Essien, GUSSS manager, remarked that the idea to provide the generator started two years ago, but due to technical and procurement issues the initiative took a while to mature. He added that the other hostels of GUSSS: Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II and Otumfuo Opoku Oware II had a stand-by generator each. Mr. Essien assured the gathering that the generator would be put to good use.
