Professor Imelda Bates, a Professor of Clinical Tropical Haematology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine has received an Honorary Doctor of Science Award from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The conferment of this award is in recognition of Professor Bates’ immense contribution towards Medical Education and Research in the Medical School of KNUST.
Professor Imelda Bates is a highly experienced clinical academic leader with a well-established international reputation for original research in tropical haematology and capacity building. She is well known for her expertise in managing multi-disciplinary projects and for supporting people to achieve excellent outputs of highest international standards.
Professor Bates was a Clinical Lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) from 1986 to 1989. During this period, she set up and managed the teaching hospital Clinical Haematology Service. She also helped in securing financial support for health related projects for the SMS and for PhDs from funders including the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom.
