The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has organized matriculation ceremony for freshmen of the 2014/2015 academic year.
This academic year’s matriculation ceremony which follows the university’s collegiate system started today, October 2, 2014 and is expected to end on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
At the College of Engineering, Rev. Fr. Addai Mensah, the Catholic Chaplain for the university said the opening prayer to commence the ceremony around 10:00am.
After the inspiration “Guadeamus” song was sung, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. William Otoo Ellis delivered his speech.
Prof. Ellis indicated that the matriculation ceremony organized for freshmen every academic year officially ushers the new students into the university community.
He continued that for the 2014/2015 academic year, 16,859 applications were received from both graduates and undergraduates. Out of the total number of applicants, 14,441 students qualified for admission but the university admitted only 11,928 students (8,455 undergraduates and 3,473 post-graduates) were offered admission. The VC added that only 8,392 students accepted the admission offer to study at KNUST.
Prof. Ellis urged all students to be serious with activities on campus by having positive ideals towards their academic goals. He said this can be acheived by engaging in group studies, taking and doing assignments.
On security, the VC advised students not to stay out for too long before going to bed. He also advised students to walk in pairs to prevent being attached at night.
Bringing his speech to an end, Prof. Ellis indicated that students will be sanctioned if they break the rules and regulations in the school.
