A matriculation ceremony has been held for the first batch of IDL students in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The ceremony which marked a significant and historic moment in the annals of the University goes down as the first time the University through its IDL is formally inaugurating its “International Distance Learning Initiative”.

Students majoring in Mechanical Engineering Program of the Institute of Distance Learning, KNUST were matriculated and this signified the official acceptance of the international students of the Institute of Distance Learning in Dubai as bona fide students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and as such entitled them to all rights and privileges accorded as students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis in His address said, Education is an asset and thus an investment that one makes or a nation makes because it is the key to change for an individual, a society and also for a nation. In that respect, He believed that the matriculated students had made an excellent decision and taken the right step by adding value to themselves through the program.

He expected the students to be of good behavior and respect all the rules and regulations which governed their status as students of KNUST. Copies of the students’ guide were provided for use by the students and were also expected to act with discipline and decorum wherever they find themselves in order to represent a good image for the university.

Finally, He advised the students as future Engineers to let their path be molded with discipline so as to be moved to greater heights. He assured the students of the University’s commitment to the Dubai program and ensuring its growth by creating new opportunities through the introduction of graduate programs at the MSc level in the coming years.

On behalf of the Management of KNUST, He thanked the Consular, the staff of the Consulate and the beneficiaries for the support in bringing the pilot initiative into being.
