Final year students of the Department of Social Work of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will embark on an educational trip to three regions in Ghana.
The regions are the Central Region, Greater Accra Region, and Volta Region.
The final year students will visit places like the Ankaful Leprosarium, Psychiatric Hospital, OSU Borsal Home, Senior Boys’ Correctional Center (Maamobi), Compassion International and the Global Action for Women Empowerment.
The trip commences on the 28th to the 30th day of January 2015 and it’s aimed at helping students challenge the status quo of social services which has been inactive for quite some time now.
It is also an indispensable exercise at the Social Sciences Department which will help students to gather practical knowledge to improve the quality of corporate social responsibility, guide them to familiarize with the activities at home and apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in a real practical situation.
In addition, the trip will help students to find out and understand their operations in relation to how persons with disability are being rehabilitated to fit back into society and to gain firsthand knowledgeabout the dynamics of NGO management and their activities.
Lastly, the trip will further enrich students understanding of how juvenile offenders are reintegrated into the society.
We are optimistic that this trip will be a success.
