The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has planned to procure three ambulances for the University Hospital to support emergency health service for students.
This was indicated by the KNUST SRC President, Duke Aaron Sasu, at the 1st Session of the 7th SRC Parliamentary Sitting held at the Independence Hall on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
In his State of the SRC Address, the President indicated an ambulance will be stationed at the Royal Parade Grounds, Bomso, and Ayeduase to save students from going through tough times getting cabs for sick friends or accident victims. He went on to add that, rooms are being secured in the various halls to be converted to First Aid Centres. This he said has already started in Queens and Republic Halls.
FINANCE
Duke made raging waters calm as he assured the House that the KBN Fund will disburse monies to the various College Accountants in the shortest possible time after which students will receive their monies. He further lauded the SRC Treasurer, Mr. Eric Owusu, for his efforts in making sure KBN was possible this academic year.
EDUCATION
The President said an e-learning library is being setup with the help of Mr. Mawuli Kobbina for students to be able to access lecture notes and course materials from the comfort of their rooms
TRANSPORT
On transportation, the SRC President informed students they will have the opportunity to board shuttles from anywhere on campus with an I.D or a special card at a fee of GHc50 per semester. He said a pilot phase will be started soon.
TRATECH
The House was informed that an amount of $2,000 has been set aside for students who are into business to expand their businesses and employ other students as well.
SPORTS
It was revealed that there will be a fair selection of sports men and women at the hall levels. The President added that discussions are on-going to make sure some credit hours are allocated to students in sports as is done in other tertiary institutions to promote student participation in sports.
CHALLENGES
Duke expressed his grief at how the image of the SRC among corporate bodies has been tarnished by the previous SRC executives thus making it difficult for his administration to secure support and sponsorships for activities of the students council.
In his closing statement, the Duke Aaron Sasu thanked the local NUGS President, Miss Evelyn Sappor Minta, on her initiative to help students acquire passports without going through any difficult process.
