Private vehicles that operate on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, campus would have to bear a sticker by the school in order to operate.
The sticker is meant to give the user of the vehicle right to drive on campus without any harassment.
Private vehicles including that of students and university staff would all need the embossment (KNUST special sticker) from the University to enable them to and fro the school.
The move is one of the measures the University Authorities are putting in place to address the unending security breaches on the school premises.
For years now, commercial vehicles (taxis and shuttles) that ply the school have a mandatory embossment by the school which keeps track of vehicular movements in and out of the school.
But the introduction of the new directive will see private vehicles also joining the log.
The initiative which is set to begin this academic year is from the auspices of the dean of students.
Acting Public relations officer of the Students Representative Council – KNUST, Owura Kuffour explained on Focus Fm’s leadership corner programme Sunday evening.
He explained the SRC is supporting the initiative by the University Authority to curb the many robbery attacks on students.
However the initiative has attracted some interesting mixed reactions from the student body.
Speaking to FOCUS FM, though some lauded it others suggested it should be a tag that can be hanged in a vehicle than an embossment on the car.
Some section of the student wants it to be in a form of a card like the student identification card that will be shown on entry to the school.
Their reason is that most of the cars are their parents’, relatives’ and friends’ so having it embossed might not help.
