A male student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), name withheld, was knocked down by a Toyota Corolla vehicle close to Africa Hall around 1:00pm on Saturday.

Eye-witnesses who spoke to myJCR.com indicated that the driver of the vehicle with registration number GE 987 Y was speeding on the road that links Unity Hall, through the Chancellor’s Hall (Hall 7) to the Commercial area when he veered off the road and knocked down the student who was standing by his motorbike off the road.

The motorist who appeared to have fractured his right leg was rushed to the University Hospital together with the driver for medical care.

The car finally crushed into a concrete drainage and then a tree before coming to an abrupt stop.

It was also gathered that the driver of the Toyota Corolla, who information gathered indicates is a staff of the Manhyia Hospital, tried to make a smart run when people started coming to the scene. He took off the number plate at the back of the car and tried walking away but was apprehended by campus security.

When myJCR reporters followed up to the hospital, we gathered the driver and the student weren’t seriously injured. The student had been booked for x-rays to check his right leg at the time we arrived.
