A section of the student populace of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology are vehemently calling for the head of the electoral commissioner.
The concern studentswant the head of the commission to resign from his position for what describe acting with impunity and unprofessional.
The cry is being spearheaded by a student group, Alliance for Accountable Leadership (AFAL).
However, other students have taken up the call after the suit by AFAL was kicked out of court.
These concerns have surfaced as a result of recent alleged corrupt practices purported to be brewing in the camp of the highest student electioneering body in the school (KNUST-EC).
Over the years, students have raised eyebrows on the conduct of the electoral commission in the various departments, faculties and colleges on campus.
Issues ranging from students paying whooping sums of money for vetting questions to others conjuring and doctoring the outcome of elections to favour them always take center stage.
Though elections are few weeks away, the commission has started on a rather jittery note drawing a lot of controversies at themselves.
This year’s SRC vetting has had to be conducted on two occasions with the first ending abruptly midway.
On the day of the second vetting, two students refused to undergo the process because they alleged the panel of demanding money in order to leak questions and/or fix them at a strategic position to favour them.
According to them, if you don’t succumb to their demands they vet you last,by then most students (supporters)become exhausted and have left the vetting premises.
This has compelled most of the students to see reasons for the late commencement of the vetting later than scheduled and why it ate late into the night.
As a result, many have argued that the current electoral commission will go into the history books of KNUST as the only commission sued twice before conducting the election proper.
Aspiring SRC president, Mandela Bright Quashie has sued the commission after a student group, AFAL, also sued them earlier.
To add insults to injury, another student vying for the women’s commissioner, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah is considering suing the commission for what she says is the EC soiling her dignity and reputation.
The results of the just ended vetting showed NOT RECOMMENDED boldly written in front of her.
But the EC have had to revoke her status explaining it was an administrative error after she threatened to sue them.
Interacting with some students, they expressed utmost disgust at the turn of event and actions of this year’s electoral commission.
