Enactus – University of Ghana, in collaboration with the Accra Psychiatric Hospital will undertake an exhibition of the handiwork of the treated patients of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital on 5th June 2015. The exhibition is to help in the reintegration process of the treated patients of the hospital and also as a fundraiser for the renovation of the Occupational Therapy Unit of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by the guest of honour, Dr. Akwasi Osei, Medical Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. Some prominent personalities like Prof. Perbi, H.E. Mrs S. Baohong, H.E. Jon Benjamin, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman- Mensah and Ekow Mensah are expected to grace the inaugural ceremony to show their support for the initiative.
“Hope for the Future” is a project under the auspices of Enactus – University of Ghana that is geared towards facilitating the reintegration of treated patients in the Accra psychiatric hospital into the society. This project is equipping treated patients of the hospital with enterprise skills to enable them create businesses for themselves and earn revenue that makes them independent and also aid them in their reintegration into their communities and the society in general.
“Hope for the Future” started with an exhibition of the works of Mr. Abdullah, an outpatient whose skills in painting and sculpture is a sight to behold, at the 19th Ghana International Trade Fair which was held between 26th February and 8th March 2015. The Bead Stringing Training Initiative being the second phase of the project activity commenced on Wednesday 15th April 2015 and lasted for 10 days where 13 cured patients of the Accra Psychiatric hospital were equipped with the skills in bead stringing.
The next phase of the project is to hold an exhibition at the hospital premises to showcase the handiwork of the treated patients of the Accra Psychiatric hospital. The funds raised from the exhibition will be used to renovate the Occupational Therapy Unit of the Accra Psychiatric hospital.
