The University of Ghana has conferred honorary degrees on 17 personalities, who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour. The Conferment of the honorary degrees was preceded by the last in the series of the 2013 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures delivered by Prof. Thandika Mkandawire, first Chair in African Development at the London School of Economics on the topic “The University and ‘Catching up’ ”.
The well-attended and colourful ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University of Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan. In attendance were the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, Chairman of the University Council, His Lordship Justice Date-Bah, Members of the University Council, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Provosts, Deans and Directors. Also in attendance were Heads of Departments, Heads of Halls, family members and well-wishers of the Honorees, former Officials of the University, members of the University community and a cross section of the media.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey justified the selection of each of the candidates for the various categories. The 17 Candidates were conferred with Doctor of Letters, Doctor of Science and Doctor of Laws degrees.
