Legon Hall ladies commemorate 60th Anniversary

As part of the activities to mark their 60th anniversary celebrations, Legon Hall the premier Hall of the University has recently organized a ladies’ day seminar at Legon. The objective of the seminar was to highlight the role of the modern woman in society and the need for young women to continue to fight for equality. The Director of Public Affairs Directorate of the University, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, chaired the function. Speaking on the topic “Marriage: How to be submissive and still be respected by your husband”, the Former Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation(GBC), Miss Eva Lokko spoke against the disparity that exists between men and women and negative stereotyping that exist women as far as their role in society is concerned. She cited an instance where women are prohibited from playing certain roles in society and called for attitudinal change,arguing that this did not allow women to unearth their full potential for the benefit of society.

The objective of the seminar was to highlight the role of the modern woman in society and the need for young women to continue to fight for equality. The Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ark Foundation Ghana, Mrs. Angela Dwamena-Aboagye spoke on “The importance of extra-curricula activities with emphasis on leadership roles”. She urged young ladies particularly those in the University to work hard at improving their self-esteem, and develop themselves so that they can aspire to leadership positions. She argued that their active engagement and involvement in formal and informal programmes on campus is enough preparation for the future roles they will play. She encouraged students, especially the females, to be confident and strive for more leadership positions so that they would contribute their quota to the sound leadership of the student body.

A representative of Black Secret, a cosmetic company made a presentation on cervical cancer.

The function was attended by students of the Hall and from the wider University community, as well as Fellows of the Hall.
