
The University of Ghana has organized a leadership training seminar for student leaders of the University. The seminar was attended by the SRC Executives from the Legon campus, Accra City Campus, Executives from the Distance Education Students Association, JCR Executives, GRASAG Executives as well as SRC committee heads.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. J.K Adomako, at the opening ceremony said that the leadership seminars are organized yearly for student leaders who occupy various positions to make them knowledgeable about the concept of leadership. He noted that the University selects resource persons who are well-equipped to educate the student leaders on the skills needed to run their respective offices.
Mrs. Gladys Setordzie, a Clinical Psychologist from the Counseling and Placement Centre of the University, gave a presentation on Managing Problems and Challenges. She focused mostly how to become an effective leader as well as the factors that affect student organizations. She advised the students not to be influenced by political parties and the attractive packages they seem to have for them. Mrs. Setordzie said, as student leaders, they should study the rules and regulations that govern the University and their respective student organizations. She noted that students who have good leadership qualities are capable of managing big organizations in the future.

Mrs. Gifty Agyenim-Boateng from the Internal Audit Directorate of this University spoke on the Accountability and Audit Process. She noted that student leaders need to know that they would be accountable to the University for any kind of financial transaction that they make. She also educated the student leaders on the steps the auditors use to evaluate and check the dues paid by students as well as expenditure made by the University. She hinted that being accountable involves responsibility, authority, evaluation and control. Mrs. Agyenim-Boateng briefed the student leaders on the work of an Auditor and the process of auditing student funds.
Other speakers included the Acting Director of the Counseling and Placement Centre of the University, Mr. John Gordon Egyir-Croffet, who spoke on the concept of leadership.
The Chairman for the occasion was Prof. S.K. Offei, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences who represented the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Prof. Kweku Osam.
