The University of Ghana has launched a new strategic plan at a colourful ceremony held at the Great Hall of the University. The new plan is expected to provide strategic direction to the University for the next decade, 2014 to 2024. With the new plan comes a vision, a new mission, nine strategic priorities and four core values.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr chaired the launch. He congratulated the University for the successful completion of the new strategic plan and called for the support of all stakeholders.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, recounted the process of drawing up the new strategic plan which he indicated began during the tenure of his predecessor, Prof. C.N.B Tagoe. He noted that the process was an all-inclusive one, with consultations held with the various employee associations as well as students of the university.

Prof. Aryeetey explained what the University plans to achieve on each of the nine strategic priorities.

He expressed the belief that the University of Ghana is poised to become a world class university if it remains dedicated to its values of integrity, commitment, respect and loyalty. He therefore called on all stakeholders to share in the dream and become ambitious, positive and be willing to fight for cause and ideals of the University.

The official launch of the strategic plan was performed by Prof. Ivan Addae-Mensah, also a former Vice-Chancellor. He indicated that the event also celebrated 20 years of strategic planning and implementation in the University, adding that such plans are of immense benefit to the University. He was pleased with the fact that succeeding officials of the University have supported strategic plans that were in place before they assumed office.

The event was attended by Members of the University council, past officials of the university, representatives from some embassies in Ghana, friends of the University, members of the University community and the general public.
