The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana (Legon) is set to launch a skill development plan.
In an interview with Univers News, the SRC President, Joshua Dogbe indicated “we have realized that as students we need to teach ourselves up with the skills that are required of us”.
The skills development plan is expected to complement the knowledge students gain in the lecture halls.
“Some of us are in schools may be to enhance our knowledge about the world but in reality we may not end up using our certificate”, the SRC president emphasized.
Mr. Dogbe explained that students will receive training in the areas of “soap making, decoration, and make -up. Male students will learn skills in barbering and vocation.”
The Skills Development Centre is expected to address graduate unemployment.
The launch of the project comes in an era where employers have complained that graduates in the country seem not demonstrate any skill in the corporate.
