Students of the University of Ghana have threatened to demonstrate against government for failing to convince striking teachers to call off their strike.

The Striking University lecturers rejected calls to end their industrial action as government plans to pay them in installment over six months.

In an interview with Citi News, the Student Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Ghana Legon, Edmond Kombart stated that the on-going industrial action will distort their academic calendar and leave students at a disadvantage.

“Students are getting agitated that, campus is getting messed up, emotions are high and if care is not taken we will not hesitate at all. We think that these two groups are using us a bargaining chip to get their issues addressed in one way or the other.”

He lamented that the students cannot be used as a bargaining chip between these two groups because it affects them as students and their future is being toiled with.

“We can’t continue to have such repetitive industrial strike here and there, government must act.Do they have a legitimate right the answer is yes” he added.
