Legon Vice-Chancellor’s End of Year Message

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As we come to the end of yet another year, it is my most pleasant duty to bring you the good wishes of the institution that you work for.
The Council and Management of the University of Ghana are generally satisfied with how the year has gone for the institution. We continued to make significant effort towards improving our lot, even if our efforts did not always yield immediate results. Watching the University of Ghana continue to make steady progress in some of the regional and global rankings has been a major boost to a number of us in Management. Today, we are the highest ranked West African university in the Webometrics rankings. Seeing the effort many colleagues are making towards having their essays included in the Readers Project has made me a lot more optimistic about this institution. The enthusiasm with which departments have engaged the restructuring of PhD programmes makes me more confident about the future of our University. A record number of people attending an Academic Board meeting voted massively to restructure the University following the collegiate model. That clearly shows an interest in the future. It is obvious to me that all of these efforts that you continue to make will begin to yield more visible results in the very near future, and for these I thank you most sincerely. I thank you for continuing to support change and for your patience. The effort you make is highly appreciated.

As we go into the Christmas week, I would like to wish you and your families the very best of the season. May you find peace in your hearts and with one another. May the season bring you the joy that you have always looked for. May the New Year bring all of you the prosperity that one associates with this earthly life and good health. When we are all happy, may we let that happiness spread to our University.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Most Wonderful New Year.

(Signed)

Ernest Aryeetey
Vice Chancellor
