Some members of the NDC’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Ghana are calling for the annulment of a recent campus election results due to over voting.
They have actually issued a May 7, 2013 ultimatum for the annulment of the results otherwise “there will be some prolific actions from us,” they said in a petition signed by Angelo Fiawotoafor and Paul Anderson.
The students, calling themselves the Concerned and Dedicated Members of Legon NDC-TEIN, noted that their voters’ register, as supplied by the campus Electoral Commission, Mildred Bosoro, had a total 503 qualified voters, and all the polling agents of the persons who stood for elections confirmed that total voter turnout was 496, but in some cases votes counted was higher than even the number of registered voters.
A statement from the student said for the Presidential elections, the votes counted came to 506 and for the Organizing Secretary and Women’s Commissioner elections, the votes came to 503 each, while that of the General Secretary came to 463, which is below the total voter turnout.

Spokesperson of the group, Angelo Fiawotoafor told Adom News “it is strange how total voter turnout would be 496 and yet votes counted for the presidential race came to 506 and that of two other offices came to 503 each.”
The group has therefore written a petition to the campus EC, and the patron of TEIN, Prof. Ahiawordor to ensure the annulment of the results on grounds of over voting, and to organize a new and more credible election.
“Basically, our main aim for embarking on this initiative is to put a stop to the increasing apathy level in TEIN Legon as it has been for the past years. We are not in to break the party frontline on campus but to improve the party’s chances in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, the region, and the country at large,” they said in the petition.
The concerned students also want to the constituency, regional and national executives of the TEIN to intervene and ensure free and fair elections.
