Prof. Emeritus J.H. Kwabena Nketia honoured by ICTM

Prof. Emeritus J.H. Kwabena Nketia has been elected an Honorary Member of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) at the 41st General Assembly of the International Council for Traditional Music, which gathered at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in July this year.

The Honorary Membership is a lifetime membership, and conveys all the benefits and obligations of ordinary memberships, which will allow him take part in the activities of ICTM Study Groups, give presentations at ICTM World Conferences, and participate in ICTM Colloquia.

As an honorary member, Prof. Nketia will receive all ICTM publications, including the Yearbook for Traditional Music (published in November) and the Bulletin of the ICTM, released electronically in April and October; he will benefit from special discounts and promotions, access premium website content, such as the Online Membership Directory and vote in ICTM elections.

Professor Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia is an Emeritus Professor of Music at the University of Ghana, where he began teaching in 1952. He is a renowned Africanist, teacher, ethno-musicologist, composer, poet, linguist and sociologist, and a former Director of the Institute of African Studies of the University.
