The University of Ghana Soccer team will play a friendly match with the former Ghana Premier League and African Champions Accra Hearts of Oak on Friday, December 5, 2014 on the University’s Main Field Park at 3:00 pm.
The friendly match on Wednesday is to help the University of Ghana (UG) team to select a formidable squad to represent the University at next year’s mini-GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) games to be held in January at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
The match against Accra Hearts of Oak comes a week after the UG Men Soccer Team played against another Premiership side Kpando Heart of Lions where they lost 2 goals to 1.
While the match against Hearts of Oak is just a friendly match the Head Coach of the UG Soccer team, Alhaji Tahiru Yusif Amuda stated the following;
“We are taking this match seriously to select the best team to represent the University and also put the team in the right shape to win the ultimate at KNUST come January. Currently we have fifty-four (54) players in camp and we need to select only twenty (20) for the competition.”
“I am looking at the general performance and tactical awareness of my players not the score line. The score line against Lions looks deceptive because we played good football, closed down the spaces of our opponents and that is exactly what we want and will continue from where we left off against Heart of Oak on Wednesday.”
Accra Hearts of Oak will also use this opportunity to keep their team in shape after a couple of friendly matches in the past month as they await the start of the First Capital Plus Premier League.
