Officials of Ecobank Ghana Limited, have presented a cheque for an amount of GH¢28,000 Ghana Cedis to the Student Financial Aid Office of the University. The donation is part of their corporate social responsibility, aimed at helping needy but brilliant students realize their dreams of higher education.
This amount goes to cater for qualified level 100 students for the 2nd semester of the 2012/2013 academic year in the University.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Kweku Osam, lauded the efficiency of Ecobank in their continuous dealings with the University in terms of the admissions process. He said the University is considering giving them a more spacious working environment soon for their operations.
Professor Osam was appreciative of the bank’s sensitivity and offer of social comfort to students of the University. He was hopeful that the gesture would afford the University the opportunity to increase the number of financial aid beneficiaries adding that currently, the University supports about 250 students, which is equivalent to about 5% of the total population of students.
The Head of the Students Financial Aid Office, Mrs. Christine Banning expressed gratitude to the Bank and expressed the hope that the gesture will continue in subsequent years. She recalled that sometime last year, Ecobank and The Trust Bank proposed to assist the Students Financial Aid Office in addressing the financial needs of students. With the merger of the two banks, Ecobank did not only take on the liability but also increased the initial amount.
The Senior Relationship Officer in Charge of the Public Sector Unit of the Ecobank Ghana Limited, Mrs. Ama Serwa Bonsu-Kwakwa, in response, said that Ecobank is pleased to sponsor students as a way of giving back to society. She was grateful to the University for engaging them in business especially during admissions periods. Also present at the Presentation were the Branch Manager, Mrs. Vivian Ahene-Affoh and the Relationship Officer, Mrs. Grace Appiah Kuwornu, both of the Legon Campus Branch of Ecobank Ghana Limited.
