Dr. Kwabena Nsiah has been appointed as the Dean of Graduate School of CSUC. Dr. Nsiah holds BSc., MSc. and PhD in Biochemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
He was appointed a Lecturer at KNUST in 1985 and a Senior Lecturer in 1997. Courses taught by him included Enzymes, Medical Biochemistry, Biological Chemistry and Metabolism of Drugs and Health Risk Toxicants. He has also taught Introductory Biochemistry to Pharmacy and Biomedical Engineering first year students. At the postgraduate level, he handled a Medical Biotechnology course. He has supervised the research projects of over 100 BSc. students and six MSc./MPhil students.
Dr. Nsiah has twenty peer-reviewed publications as well as over 40 other publications. The local and international conference presentations he has made are over 25. He has authored two textbooks – one on Biological Chemistry and the other on Enzymes. He has also contributed to a book chapter on Malaria.
He was the Editor of two publications at KNUST, ‘Technocrat’, a magazine for the entire KNUST and CoSNews, a Newsletter of the College of Science. Coincidentally, Dr. Nsiah was the second Editor of Technocrat, having taken over from the first Editor, Prof. (Mrs.) Frances Owusu-Daaku, the current President of CSUC. He serves as a reviewer to several local and international journals. The Editorial Board of one of the journals, International Journal of Laboratory Haematology recognised him as one of the journal’s top reviewers in 2011.
He has been an active member of the Ghana Science Association (GSA), for which he served as the National Secretary from 1989 to 1991. Dr. Nsiah is a Local Preacher and Leader in the Methodist Church. He is married with two adult children.
Outlining his vision, Dr. Nsiah said, “from my interaction with the President of the University College and other key members of the Administration, I realise CSUC needs to strengthen the School of Graduate Studies and the Department of Nursing, as well as prepare the ground for a Physician Assistant programme. Also, there is the need for the setting up of a multi-purpose laboratory. I see these as the charge to me, and my prayer to our never failing Emmanuel is to graciously provide the divine enablement for the tasks ahead.”
