A recent press release by Ho Polytechnic’s Registrar, David K. Dzontoh, indicated that the the Authorities of the school have closed the polytechnic down.
The release indicated that at an Executive Committee Meeting of Ho Polytechnic Academic Board held on Thursday, 5th June 2014, the Board decided that due to the POTAG strike which has been ongoing for the last 21 (twenty-one) days, students are permitted to leave Campus from Friday 6th June, 2014 until further notice.
Students will be recalled to complete the second semester of 2013/2014 academic year. Students and the general public will be informed of the day of resumption of lectures.
The members of Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) embarked on a strike action over books and research allowance. POTAG announced an indefinite nationwide strike in protest against the unwillingness of government to pay their Book and Research Allowance for the 2013/2014 academic year.
The Education Ministry has described the strike as illegal.
