The cry of UDS student leaders

SPECIAL UDS SRC/NUGS COMMUNIQUE TO ALL UDS STUDENTS.

So soon a year is gone and another has just begun. We have gone through a lot within the last 5 months of the immediate past year. We came to power with the mind-set of reviving the interest of the students’ body in the Students Representative Council (SRC).

We had our goals, aims, and visions which were appreciated by individuals and the entire students’ body as a whole. We are not oblivious of the agitations and bitter cry of the student body. We assure you, that all hope is not lost. We are doing our best as SRC to deliver on our promises but the system of our institution has weakened the ability of the SRC.

Yes this system we called “Central” is killing the SRC. The fact that we take decisions at our General Assembly and a single person in an office tells us “NO” we can’t do what we want to do is very painful and is undermining our effort.

– This is the time for each and every one of you to come out boldly to support the SRC in our quest to decentralize ourselves from this thing called “Central.”

– It’s about time issues surrounding our finances and our decisions be handled at our local campuses.

– The bureaucracy involved in obtaining funds for legitimate and SRC approved projects is so cumbersome that a leader might even leave office without a single “physical project.”

– It’s about time we say “NO TO THESE ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULITES CREATED TO STIFFLE THE GROWTH OF THE SRC.”

These are just a few of the problems faced by the leadership of the SRC of the University for Development Studies on all the four campuses and these directly contribute to the “stunted growth” of the various SRC’s and not necessarily leadership. We have good and visionary leaders but a “WEAK” and “greedy” system.

THE WAY FORWARD

1. Open forums will be organised on the four (4) campuses as soon as school reopens to delve and deliberate into these pertinent issues and problems.

2. Students are required to support the SRC in its struggle by joining hands to push forward the conclusions and decisions of the land mark open forums and many other concerns that has already been raised.

3. The petition or concerns will be submitted to the Vice chancellor and the school authorities.

4. The SRC shall give management a TIMELINE TO WORK ON OUR GRIEVANCES.

5. The responses of the UDS authorities within our time frame will inform us the right line of action.

This is long overdue, we have a right; as the latin expression says, “Justicia omnibus” synonymously, “Justice for All.”

We have to set the past ablaze. Let’s join hands.

God bless you. Happy New Year.
