The University for Development Studies (UDS), has launched three hand books to be served as guide to senior university members and newly employed persons.

The books are ; “Mentoring Handbook”, “Mentoring Policy” and “Ethics Policy”. They were  prepared by the UDS Institute for Continuing Education and Interdisciplinary Research (ICEIR).

The Ethics Policy is designed to guide all university members on appropriate behaviour in relation to the UDS to establish standards for good academic and ethical conduct.

The Mentoring Policy was prepared under the framework of UDS philosophy to address appropriately issues concerning its development and professional growth while the Mentoring Handbook is designed for newly employees.

Professor Seidu Alhassan, Director of ICEIR, who gave an insight on what the manuals seek to do during the launch said when people learn about ethics in school the common thinking is that they would become responsible citizens.

He said ethics and mentorship are critical for higher learning institutions such as the UDS and ethical issues as well as mentoring in the university makes it possible for the experienced to mentor the less experienced.

Prof Gabriel Teye, Pro Vice Chancellor of UDS said the launch of the guidelines had come at the right time because the current situation of the academic entity demands that it keeps records of ethics and mentoring.

Some of the issues the “Ethics policy” covered include conflict of interest, corruption, financial ethics, environmental security, and communication ethics among other things.
