The Valley View University (VVU) on Friday awarded some staff of the University for their meritorious and long service to the educational institution, at its annual end of year party, in Accra.
The staff who served the university between 15 and 28 years received award, included Mrs Mary Agyeiwaa, chief cook, who had served the university for 28 years, Mr Samuel Yanney, a Chief driver, who served the University for 27 years, And Mrs Gifty Aidoo, Principal Administrative Assistant, who served for 16 years.
The rest were Ms Faustina Brefo-Darkwa, a Principal Accounting Assistant, who served the University for 16 years, and Mrs Esther Asabia Boafo, a Senior Assistant Registrar, who worked for 15 years.
All the award winners were given refrigerators and certificate each for their services and contribution towards the growth of the university.
Professor Daniel Buor, Vice-Chancellor, VVU, noted that although the year had been challenging, the university had managed to sail through, citing the removal of about 300 students who could not meet the admission standard set by National Accreditation Board.
He expressed his appreciation to all those who assisted the University in its quest to establish a basic school, this year.
“The university is also putting measures in place to establish an ultra-modern conference centre which would be considered as one of the best on the continent of Africa”, Prof Buor said.
He praised the lectures of the University for publishing 35 Peer Review Articles, which had been published in magazines around the world.
In a related development, Prof. Buor also inaugurated a GH₵ 172,000 power plant to complement power supply at the university.
The Students Representative Council (SRC) of VVU used the occasion to inaugurate a GH₵ 50,000 social centre for the students of the university.
