The ban placed on residents of the Casely Haford Hall (Casford) by Authorities of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) that prevented residents from celebrating hall weeks for about 7 years now has finally been lifted.
This was confirmed by the current Vice President of Casford, Narudeen Yusif, in an interview with myJCR News. The removal of the ban follows series of appeals by various JCRCs, SRCs, and NUGS for the past years.
The JCRC of Casford has therefore planned to celebrate their much cherished and highly patronised hall week celebration from February 25 to March 1, 2015 in grand style. The celebration will be proudly powered by myJCR.com.
The Ban
The Casely Hayford Hall was closed down during the second semester of the 2007/2008 Academic Year after violent clashes between Casfordians and residents of their rival hal, Atlantic Hall (ATL). The clashes were characterized by stone throwing between residents of the two halls and the alleged kidnapping of one student of CASFORD who claims he was stripped and assaulted.
A statement issued by the Registrar of UCC said the decision to close the Hall was taken to restore law and order following students’ general behaviour including the throwing of stones, use of petrol bombs, the destruction of property and issuing of threats to the hall administration in connection with their annual week celebration. Residents of the Hall were asked to vacate and their hall week celebrations were banned indefinitely.
