Students of the Medical Laboratory Technology have officially launched an association at a colourful ceremony at Lecture Theatre 21, North Campus.
The establishment of the Medical Laboratory Technology Students’ Association (MELTSA) was initiated by pioneers of the programme who would be graduating in 2013. The launching was on the theme “Quality Health, Our Priority.”

Delivering the opening address, the Patron of the Association and a lecturer of Chemical Pathology, Dr. Dadzie Ephraim commended the students for the establishment of the association since they would directly benefit from the professional mother Associations such as Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students’ Association (FG-MELSA), Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists (GABMLS) and other international bodies like the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists-IFBLS.

The guest speaker for the function, Mr. Alex Boye, a Lecturer at the Department noted that, “first impression in our field of work always counts.” He advised the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to balance leadership roles with their academic pursuits.

In his acceptance speech, the Interim President, Mr. Clement Agoni, thanked the entire teaching staff and members of the association for instilling in them the confidence to manage the affairs of the association. He noted that there was the need for unity among members and entreated them to actively partake in all programs to ensure that the association achieved an enviable status.

Present at the ceremony was the Regional Vice Chairman of GABMLS, lecturers, research assistants and students of the Department of Laboratory Technology.
