NUGS-UCC donates blood to Central Regional Hospital

The local chapter of the National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) at University of Cape Coast (UCC) organized a blood drive last Thursday (February 20, 2014) to stock the Blood Bank of the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast.

The exercise was held at the famous Parliament House of the University.

Volunteers also had the opportunity to be tested for HIV, blood sugar level, blood pressure, and blood group for free.

Speaking to myJCR News, the Women’s Commissioner of the NUGS-UCC, Ms Selorm Dzantor, (organizer for the blood drive) said they were expecting only 50 donors but ended up getting 150 bags of blood for the hospital. She thanked students of UCC for making the exercise a success.

The Ladies Week Celebration started on Saturday, February 15, 2014 with a trip to Accra and continued with other charitable events like donation of items and used clothes to the University Hospital and the Ankaful Prisons.

Mrs Victoria Andoh, a Nurse of the regional hospital was full of praise for NUGS-UCC as well as the students. “I salute the LNUGS and the students of UCC for this exceptional gesture to the Hospital” she lauded. She went ahead to appeal to the public to come to their aid as the hospital needs more blood to save lives.
