Oguaamanhene calls on Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast

The Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimah Kwesi Atta II, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast in his office as part of his routine visit as the custodian of the land to various establishments and institutions within the traditional area to foster good working relationship.

Osabarima Kwesi II announced that the Chiefs and people of Oguaa will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Fetu Afahye this year and asked for the full participation and support of the university. He said the Traditional Council appreciated the good working relationship that has developed over the years between the council and the university and hoped that it would continue for a long time to come.

Welcoming the Omanhene and his entourage, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole said management appreciated the steps taken by the Omanhene to get closer to the university always which has brought about peaceful co-existence.The Vice-Chancellor said the university felt honoured by the Omanhene’s continued and ever presence at most of the university’s functions and thanked him for the kind collaboration.“We are happy that you have often availed yourself and always ready to listen to us”, he added.

Prof. Kuupole expressed management’s worry about the metropolitan assembly’s inability to include the university in their planning of the metropolis and appealed to Osabarima Kwesi Atta to help in resolving the issue. He said roads at the new site and the surrounding communities were in a deplorable state and needed serious attention.

The Vice-Chancellor also called on the surrounding villages to allow the university to help organize their townships and that “the university does not intend to take their lands from them and also urged them to stop encroaching on the university’s lands”. He cited an instance that a parcel of land earmarked for a police station at Amamoma had been taken over by another person who was currently building on it.

He gave assurance that the university would provide the traditional council with both human and material support to make the anniversary a memorable one.

The Registrar, Mr. John Kofi Nyan, Director of Finance, Mr. Caxton Oduro-Donkor were present during the courtesy call.
