The Dean of Students, Prof. Benjamin Abotchie Ntreh, has advised student leaders to be at the forefront in championing the ideals of the University.
He noted that the University recognizing the crucial role student leaders’ play had made provision for them in the University Governing Council which is the highest decision making and other statutory committees.
Speaking at the Student Representative Council (SRC) Handing-Over Ceremony at the Faculty of Education Lecture Theatre (FELT), Auditorium 900. Prof. Ntreh entreated the leaders to sensitise the entire student body to develop interest in contributing to the vision and mission of the UCC.
Delivering the handing over speech at the function, the out-going SRC President, Mr. Enoch Boateng, commended the University management for establishing a fruitful collaboration with the student leaders. He observed that “it takes diplomacy and not radicalism to become a good leader.” and therefore called on the newly-elected SRC president, “to adopt a father to son approach in their dealing with the university management.”
The outgoing SRC President, pointed out that it would be impossible to satisfy the over 50,000 students of UCC. The entire members of the SRC must offer transparent, proactive leadership with a collective voice in championing their case for the common good of all students.
Touching on the achievement of the 2012/2013 SRC, Mr. Enoch mentioned that the Council had purchased a 32-seater Coastal Bus and had made payment GH¢1 million of the SRC Hostel loan. They had also purchased public address system for SRC events.
In his acceptance speech, the newly-elected SRC President, Mr. David Boakye, appealed to UCC management to cut down on the bureaucracy in the system to facilitate timely execution of projects. He also urged the other elected executives to be united in order to project the interest of students at all times.
The Registrar, Mr. John Kofi Nyan administered the oath of office to the newly-elected executives.
