The Department School of Medical Sciences has procured a modern Mobile Breast Screening Van valued at several thousands of dollars to enhance treatment and prevention of the disease in Cape Coast and its satellite communities.
The ultra-modern mobile van which is the first in the country is fully equipped with instruments and devices for the treatment of breast cancer would also complement research, teaching and learning at the SMS.
Inaugurating the mobile van, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole noted that the UCCSMS through its commitment towards enhancing health care delivery in the country had moved a step further by providing the requisite facilities and equipment to adequately prepare the students to become exceptional medical doctors.
A lecturer at the Department of Chemical Pathology, Dr. Frank N. Ghartey Jnr, who played an instrumental role in the procurement of the mobile van stated that the van would contribute to minimizing the spread of breast cancer in the country through early detection and treatment of the disease. He indicated that the van would also serve as a referral centre and provide mobile mammography services to women from all over the country.
