This special release is to debunk the information circulating on WhatsApp and Social Media that the recent attack on University of Cape Coast’s (UCC) official website was carried out by a former student of the school.
The person behind the attack is not a former student of UCC and not even a Ghanaian. The attacker is from Bangladesh, a country in South Asia. He belongs to a group (Bangladesh Gray Hat Hackers (BD Gray Hat Hackers) which has been carrying attacks on several random and specific websites worldwide for several years now.
One of their notable attacks was carried out in October 2012 on 54 Israeli websites and dedicated it to the people of Palestine. Below is the message they posted on the defaced websites;
“Eid Mubarak to the people of Palestine. It is Eid day here in Bangladesh but, we, the members of Bangladesh Grey Hat Hackers not wasting our time having fun. We hacked some sites and dedicated to you guys. Don’t think you guys are alone. Allah is with you,”
This recent attack on the UCC website HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A SO CALLED FORMER COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT OF UCC.
