It seems we have gotten another stream at Frontline Hostel, a hostel for KNUST students located at Ayeduase.
On the 26th day of September, 2014 a heavy downpour around 8:00pm resulted in flooding in most water logged areas off KNUST campus especially Ayeduase. This is not the first time floods have hit several areas of Ayeduase.
The situation is worse infront of the Frontline Hostel. Floods threaten residents each time there is a downpour but nothing is being done about the situation.
After the recent downpour, a resident invited me to the scene to enable me report their burden on myJCR.com. Upon my arrival at the scene I was left with no option than to walk through the stream.
The situation was an eyesore as students stood at opposite ends of the stream at the Frontline Hostel waiting to cross to other hostels.
This kind of situation makes me feel the welfare of KNUST students outside campus is never considered by student leaders. It is indeed pathetic for a student to virtually swim in a stream before he/she reaches some Ayeduase hostels anytime it rains.
The main cause of this situation is the poor road network and poor drainage systems at Ayeduase. The gutters found in most areas of the Ayeduase (off campus) community are very narrow and are often chocked with waste materials.
I suggest that the gutters be widened to allow free passage of rainwater into its destination. I also recommend the construction of a bridge at the Frontline Hostel area with culverts allowing free flow of water.
Above all I entreat all hostel owners and managers to do something about the poor roads off KNUST campus. I hope these suggestions would be considered to enhance and promote the welfare of student.
