It amazes me when student leaders, both past and present, point fingers at the government of Ghana for its failures whiles the students fronts rot per academic year.
Have they ever pondered on the main reason why the Student Representative Councils (SRCs) of various institutions and the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) were established?
The loss of focus on the part of our student leaders goes deep down even to the departmental level. Leaders who are expected to fight for the interest of students have turned into event organizers, t-shirts producers, and exercise books distributors.
Executives of Halls of Residence, GESA, SCISA, CASS, CAPSA, MSA, ISA and so on continue to lose focus EVERY academic year and we don’t seem to care about it.
If the organization of week celebrations, debates, and awards nights is leadership, then the government is doing far better than them. They should stop pointing fingers at the government and wake up.
I have seen a society where lecturer and student are no different and students are highly independent and they are performing very well. Are we going to stay under the dictatorship of our various deans, heads of department, provosts and turn our leadership into events organization and souvenirs production?
We have a long way to go. Hope is far from Ghana because these event organizers on campus who call themselves student leaders are aiming to play major role in the governance of this country. The end will be naming ceremonies and event organization.
Stand up Ghana students! ALUTA CONTINUA!
